Op.452 Close Woods Wb

Close Woods glass artwork by Roger V Thomas

Where We Were When

Close Woods

Four glass panels 20″ high x 10″ wide.

Four deckle-edged glass panels transition from amber to turquoise as the forest scene both reveals and conceals layers of complexity and detail.

The client who requested this work had seen a previous commission, Into Light (Op. 399), and wanted something similar. Instead of the abstract nature of the previous piece, however, they preferred more emphasis on the color transition. (And four panels instead of five, obviously.)

Roger Thomas was born in Los Angeles, California in 1951. He began working with stained glass in the 1970’s, and by the 1980’s was developing his own innovative techniques with fused glass. After moving to Portland, OR to take a job at his favorite glass factory in 1988, he established his second studio and began to “make things” in earnest.
